Clear terms for building and sharing a family story.

1. Using Kinvella

By creating an account or using Kinvella, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

You are responsible for keeping your login information secure and for activity performed through your account. Provide accurate account information and keep your email address current so Kinvella can deliver account and security communications.

2. Your family content

You retain ownership of the names, photographs, stories, dates, places, and other family content you submit to Kinvella. You grant Kinvella a limited permission to host, store, reproduce, transform, and process that content only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the features you choose to use.

You are responsible for the content you add. Do not upload or share content you do not have the right to use, and use appropriate care when adding information or portraits about living relatives or other people.

3. KinSight and portrait analysis

KinSight is an optional feature that compares visual characteristics in selected portraits and returns an estimated resemblance result. Kinvella may use Amazon Rekognition to perform eligible portrait validation and facial comparison as described in the Privacy Policy.

KinSight results are informational and recreational. They are not proof of identity, biological relationship, ancestry, paternity, maternity, genetic relationship, or medical condition, and they should not be used to make decisions about a person's rights, eligibility, safety, employment, credit, insurance, healthcare, or access to essential services.

4. Invitations and public story links

Kinvella family workspaces are private by default, but you can choose to grant other people access. You are responsible for deciding whom to invite and which permissions to grant.

If you intentionally publish a public story link, anyone who receives that active link may be able to view the content included in the shared story. You can revoke a public story link through Kinvella. Do not include information in a public share that you are not comfortable making available to link recipients.

5. Plans, payments, cancellation, and downgrades

Kinvella may offer Free, Basic, Pro, or other plans with different family-member limits or features. Current plan details and prices are shown on the Pricing page. Paid subscriptions are processed through Stripe and renew for each billing period until canceled, as shown during purchase.

You can cancel a paid subscription using Kinvella's billing controls. Unless otherwise stated during purchase, cancellation stops future renewal while paid access remains available through the end of the current paid billing period. Charges already incurred are not automatically refunded, except where required by law or expressly stated by Kinvella.

Cancellation does not automatically delete your family information. When a paid plan ends, the account can return to the Free plan. If the family contains more real people than the new plan allows, Kinvella preserves the existing family but pauses normal family-content editing until you upgrade again or reduce the family to the applicable limit. Viewing, account management, deletion, and other safety/account controls remain available as provided by the product.

Prices, plan limits, and included features may change prospectively. We will not describe a current plan or hosted service as guaranteed to remain unchanged indefinitely.

6. Acceptable use

Do not misuse Kinvella, attempt to access another family's private data without authorization, interfere with the service, bypass security or plan controls, upload malicious code, use the service for unlawful activity, or use KinSight for prohibited high-impact or rights-affecting decisions.

7. Service availability and changes

We work to keep Kinvella available and dependable, but no hosted service can promise uninterrupted operation or permanent availability. Kinvella may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features, plans, or the service when reasonably necessary. Where practical, we will provide notice of material changes that significantly affect paid customers or access to stored family content.

8. Account deletion and termination

You can permanently delete your Kinvella account through Account → Privacy & Data. Account deletion is different from canceling a subscription. The deletion flow is designed to cancel an identifiable open Kinvella Stripe subscription before the owning account and active family data are removed.

Kinvella may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary to address fraud, security threats, unlawful use, serious Terms violations, or legal requirements. Where appropriate, we will try to provide notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue.

9. Disclaimers

Kinvella is a family-storytelling and organization service. It is not a professional genealogy-verification service, genetic-testing service, identity-verification service, medical service, legal service, or permanent archival institution.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Kinvella is provided on an "as available" basis without guarantees that every feature, result, user-supplied fact, third-party service, or uninterrupted period of availability will be error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Kinvella will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from use of the service. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Kinvella evolves. If a change is material, we will update the date above and provide additional notice when appropriate. Continued use after updated Terms take effect means the updated Terms apply to subsequent use, subject to rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.

12. Applicable law

These Terms are subject to applicable law, including consumer-protection rights that cannot be waived by contract. Nothing here is intended to take away mandatory legal rights available where you live.
